Answer 1 :
They don't. If they can't give you a fixed fee you can refuse to pay the bill. If they run your monthly accounts they ALWAYS have to tell you how much it is going to cost in advance. Otherwise you are dealing with a crook.
Answer 2 :
They don't. They tell you their hourly rate and charge it (same applies to lawyers). If you phone him he puts the clock on! If you ask a question or ask him to do something the clock is on! He will be able to show you an itemised time/charge sheet!
Answer 3 :
Accountants are people with knowledge of finance and law so if they make charges (by right) they should inform their client prior to services being made with terms and conditions of changes. ...and also depend on accountant's decency and communications skills. Unfortunately many of them don't even bother to contact their customers. Thanks Kind Regards
Answer 4 :
Accountants should let you know when you are being charged for there services. Its best to ask friends and familly to find a decent and approachable accountant.
Answer 5 :
I should think they have a cost framework like solicitors. That is if they are genuine accountants & members of the appropriate body. They tend to charge as a percentage of turnover.
