Answer 1 :
10th s.t.d.? sexually transmitted disease? hmmmmmm.
Answer 2 :
Join the Plus two with commerce/accountancy as the major and after that follow it upto M.Com. After getting M Com, write an entrance examination for CA, join the CA course, complete it, work under a Chartered Accountant for some duration after passing. That is all.
Answer 3 :
Actually, you can find all the info you want about CA in their website. Its one of the most informative websites. You need to first complete plus two. You need not take up Bachelor's to be eligible for CA. Though you can take up any group in plus 2, its suggested that you take up Commerce and Accounting as the main subjects. In a nutshell, for becoming a CA, you first need to register with CA Institute and clear an entrance exam called CPT which is conducted twice a year (June and Dec). Before you can write CPT, you should have successfully completed plus 2 or equivalent. Then you need to prepare for the 2nd stage called IPCC. Once you complete IPCC, you are eligible to take up articleship with a CA firm for 3.0 years during which time you will learn the trade of the CA hands on. After you have 2.5 years of articleship, you can take up writing the final exam, passing which you become a CA. The entire duration for this takes around roughly 4 years if you clear all the exams in one go.

Training to be a primary school teacher?

Training to be a primary school teacher?
I currently am a house wife looking after my 3 month old daughter, but am also a qualified accountant. I am seriously considering re-training to become a primary school teacher. I would need to be at home whilst learning, or maybe just be in uni for a day a week. Is this possible? How long will it take?
Teaching - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I'm also training to become a primary school teacher, and I study with the Open University - cause I need a national curriculum degree - in the evenings and weekends when I'm with my kids. It's hard but worthwhile and 2 more years I'm ready for PGCE
Answer 2 :
my friend qualified with an english degree and has just completed her pgce. Its very hard work and you have to go on work placements in schools and be assessed. She has had sooo much work to do assignments after assignments. She doesnt have any children so could commit to all the work. Im not sure if you could do it like that. Maybe you could do early learning course with open university or something but even with that you would have to be placed in a school for practical. Go on the open university website that shows you what course are available and what is involved.
Answer 3 :
There are TONS of on-line classes. I'm sure that a university near you offers many. I was a single mom working full time and going to night school to become an elementary teacher. I just graduated in December. I know it sounds backwards, but being away from your child gets harder as they get older and he/she actually understands that you are going away for a little bit. Once you get into a routine with a daycare or babysitter it is a lot easier. It takes a LOT of sacrifices, from everyone in the family. Your husband or significant other must understand that this is something very important to you. You won't have as much time with friends either. Your child won't be affected by you being gone as much as you think. It would only be a few days or nights a week. And yes they do offer one day a week classes, most of them are about 3 hours long each. It's all worth it! After my associates, It took about 2 years of going full time. So if you go part time and during the summer your looking at about 3 years. Hope this helped. Good luck and don't stress out, it goes by fast.
Answer 4 :
Presume you are in UK. If you already have a degree then you can do a PGCE but this will require significant blocks of working in a school. Don't know where you live, butr Sheffield Hallam University do a part-time PGCE intended for people like yourself because it is spread over two years instead of the usual two. Don't know if Open University actually do a teaching qualification but they might. Actual requirements can be found at TDA link below.
Answer 5 :
If you have your first degree it will take you one year full time and two years part time. Not sure about online courses, would seem strange as alot of the work of a primary teacher is extremely practical. Either way, you would be required to do blocks of placement teaching in schools so you would need to have some kind of childcare available for that. Just like to add, there are very few jobs in primary teaching at the moment. Universities have been churning out newly qualified teachers and with the new probationer scheme running, (you have a job guaranteed for one year after finishing uni) schools are filling vacancies with probationers as they have to find them places and they also get paid less. If you can get job it can be very rewarding but definitely hard work. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Is it rude to not invite someone for drinks if they think you are creepy?

Is it rude to not invite someone for drinks if they think you are creepy?
I'm pretty open and friendly, a month ago a new accountant started working in my department. I invited her to my place for Friday night drinks with a few friends. She thought I was creepy. Fair enough. This weekend, I had another get together with the same friends, including most of the department(there are 10 of us) and we had a great time. When she found out on Monday, she was upset because I hadn't invited her. Is it creepy to invite or rude to not invite?
Etiquette - 14 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
If she told you to your face you were creepy, then no it's not rude not to invite her. If you heard that she said something second or third hand via a rumor, that's really no excuse to exclude her.
Answer 2 :
Best way to resolve these problems is put ourselves in their shoes and think how you'de feel? Personally she might have thought you was weird for asking because she's new? possible thought you was making a pass at her? Yeah if she was upset fair enough tell her you didn't mean anything by it and invite her to the next one.
Answer 3 :
"Life is a Rainbow" is correct. The only way to make things right is to be honest with her about either what you heard or what you know and that it was not your intent to exclude her.
Answer 4 :
Well, it sounds like the accountant thinks both things are true, according to the summary you provide. What I hope is that it is a misunderstanding. You will look best if you also make this assumption. You could say to her, "Last time I invited you, you said I was being creepy. Did I misunderstand?" Alternately, if you heard it from someone else, you would say, "Last time I invited you, I heard from someone else that you thought this was creepy. Have I been misinformed?" (Of course, don't name names.) You should try to ask this in a neutral way, with the best balance of confidence and mild regret you can muster.
Answer 5 :
When she first said that it was creepy you should have said that you were trying to being friendly and that you are sorry she felt this way. Maybe in that month she got to know you and felt that she was part of the team and was therefore upset that you didn't invite her. I personally wouldn't have invited her after she thought I was creepy and that is what I would tell her after she stopped being upset that as she thought I was creepy, she wasn't welcome. Then forget it and move on. KD
Answer 6 :
She was rude to you so you were rude back. Fair enough.
Answer 7 :
It's rude not invite and exclude someone that works with you when you invited all/most of the the others. I would be upset if I wasn't included in a "works do" just because I wasn't part of the gang. If you could for a moment - put yourself in her shoes - new job, colleagues, etc how would you feel?
Answer 8 :
You're not obligated to invite everyone you know to every party. But since your co-workers apparently can't keep these things discrete, it's probably better to invite all of them, or none.
Answer 9 :
If she said you was creepy face to face then no it wasn't rude not to invite her. Why would she want to spend time around you if she finds you creepy?
Answer 10 :
When you first invited her to your place for "Friday night drinks with a few friends", did you make it clear that there would be other people there whom she knew from work? She may have thought that your invitation would turn out to be a party for two, or that all the other people would be bar-flies or weirdos. My advice: Next time you have a similar get-together, be sure to invite her. By this time, she will have found out that you're a decent person. Perhaps your parties should be more about food, games, TV or videos, and conversation, and only incidentally about drinking.
Answer 11 :
She was right to feel offended because you had invited everyone else but excluded her. How do you know she thinks you are creepy? If she has actually said this then she has no manners and you should not interact with her in any way
Answer 12 :
You have a free will. You can invite, or not invite, who the hell you like. It's your home. If she's offended, then tough titty. I wouldn't let it worry me one jot.
Answer 13 :
NO it was not rude of you. Infact, you should tell her in a firm, but polite way that the only reason you didn't invite her was because she thought you were creepy and you didn't want to pressure her into accepting your invitation.
Answer 14 :
If you don't like someone, don't invite them. Why ruin your day

I am a Private Limited Company - What Taxes Do I Need To Pay?

I am a Private Limited Company - What Taxes Do I Need To Pay?
I am a Private Limited Company and have a record off all the business expenditure so I can prove what the Business has earnt and spent. I also have a Profit and Loss chart. I have not registered for VAT with HM Revenues and Customs. I know that I must pay Coporations Tax but do nor know how one goes about calcualting it? As my Business is regsitered with Companies House and a formation agent is my company secretary will I be sent all the necessary tax documents by Companies House, HM Revenues etc? I am asking all these questions because I cannot afford an accountant and need advice? Have I missed any taxes out?
United Kingdom - 7 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Head along to your local business link. They will give you all the information as to what you should do. They will also give other business advice, i.e. data pretection asct, etc
Answer 2 :
If your turnover is over £60,000/year you need to register now. Corporation tax is due 9months & 1 day after your year-end date. I'm not entirely sure how it is worked out, just that it's based on a percentage of your adjusted profit. It's higly adviseable to invest in an Accountant as they will make sure you get everything right (speaking as an Accounts Assistant - I do Corp Tax on computer so don't need to know how to work it out!). You can ask HMRC for leaflets which will help. Alternatively you could take a bookkeeping/accounting course - although that could end up costing as much as the Accountant who'll do it for you
Answer 3 :
Corporation tax on profit and or any dividends you intend to pay. Tehn make sure you have set up a PAYE scheme and pay NI (employers & employees) for any employees and also Income tax for any employees. These are all operating costs and should be paid before your final end of year accounts. There is an easy answer to your question in that if you don't have an accountanat you will pay more in fines, late filing charges etc. Don't use a chartered accountant for this kind of small comapny, they are expensive. Find an old bloke in an office who has a few clients. I do this, my company employs 2 people and hires a load of consultants and I pay less than £300 a year. In fact, operate through my umbrella company www.serviscom.uk.com
Answer 4 :
Either go to a local advice centre or hire an accountant specialising in small businesses. My accountant costs me less than £500 per annum for doing everything and it's money well spent as they can actually save you money. If your turnover is around £57-£60K per annum you MUST register for VAT. You need to get all this sorted NOW, so please get some professional advice.
Answer 5 :
Hiya, i run a LTD company too. Okay go to www.businesslink.gov.uk or call 0845 600 9006 They will send you for free The No-Nonsense Guide to government rules and regulations for setting up your business. This publication has been my Bible for many months, full of all the info you need and all contacts for HM inland Revenue, different ways of doing your accts etc, what you need to pay and when you need to pay it. You are also entitled to 3 one hour appointments at your local business link for free. I made a list of questions each time so that my time was spent actually getting the info i was after. Ltd companies pay 19% corporation tax on your proffit. But if you are having trouble paying for an accountant, it sounds like you are still making a loss( most do for the first three years). It is worth using the first hour with an accountant (which you get for free) they will give you professional advice on what you need to present and how you need to present it. If you need any other help email me literary_angel@yahoo.co.uk
Answer 6 :
If you're asking these questions I think you will find it difficult to do without an accountant. First, Companies House has nothing to do with tax. You will need to file your accounts and annual return with them. They will send reminders at the appropriate time. Now, on to tax. I presume you know that you would need to register for VAT if your turnover in any twelve month period exceeds the limit (£61,000 at the moment). The company pays Corporation Tax on its profits which are simply the turnover minus the allowable expenses. Most business expenses are allowable but there are some odd items which are not. The small companies rate at present is 19%. HMRC will send you a return form although you should note it is your responsibility to obtain a form f you don't receive one. Has your company made a profit? If so what have you done with it? This is important because the money belongs to the company and not you. You can take the profit out of the company by paying yourself a salary. Then you may have to pay PAYE and national insurance contributions depending on the amount and your circumstances. It might be possible to pay a dividend which would avoid PAYE and NI but this does not always work.
Answer 7 :
Hi you will find some useful information related to company related taxes and useful links here. http://www.head2uk.com/business.php/page/185

Answer 1 :
Ummm, maybe go to school?
Answer 2 :
Well.....first you have to become an accountant. This means selecting which type of qualification you want.......ACCA, CIMA, ACA etc etc. Generally this study will take you 3-5 years dependant on whether you have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate subject or not. Then the other part - Commercial - and determining the type of business you wish to work for. Usually commercial accountants are very close to the core business decision making....so need to have a good background in your chosen business area. As a starting point, one of your best bets is to try and get into one of the large accounting firms or a large national/international company. Good luck!

Me and my partner have 2 young children, his a financial manager and im studying to be an accountant, we really want to leave the uk and are debating on america, but i know every little about the states as individuals and was wandering from peoples personal experience or knowledge which state would you say is the best for a family?

Answer 1 :
As a researcher, I can tell you that the available information you would need to help make a good decision on where to move to within the United States can be found at: http://www.city-data.com/ It lists everything from cities, schools, tax assessments, from apartments to registered sex offenders. Since you have 2 young children - this is important! It lists them by state, then city, then actual address and a full description of the individual is given. For the climate of the region you might choose, you can look at: http://weather.org/weatherorg_records_and_averages.htm that will let you see what the weather has been like, by date and area Once you have picked a possible city - google that city and you will be able to find out what is special about it, such as different events that are held and what kind of tourism, if any, that they have. I really hope this helps you in your decision making process, because I can tell you from personal experience, what attracts one person to an area can repel another.
Answer 2 :
The suburbs of Kansas City, Kansas......the county of Johnson County.....it has the best schools and it has been proved that it is the best place for a family. It has the best schools, more things for families to do together, and etc http://www.city-data.com/forum/kansas/376922-johnson-county-kansas-american-dream.html
Answer 3 :
Have you already determined how you will obtain the visas required for this proposed move? It is a difficult process.

I run an internet business as well as working full time. Can i claim for an office and broadband and phone etc
I am talking about the costs that my accountant should be putting down as cost involved in running the business. Anyone that can shed some light on this or point me to a laymans website would be well received.
Small Business - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes, you can claim office space, phone, etc.... But you know what I'm going to do soon? I'm just going to go to my local IRS office and ask them about my own situation where I make money using my computer (trading stocks). That way, I'll know from the source exactly what is legal and what is not. And I will try to get it in writing too, with an IRS letterhead on the paper. The IRS is not against people getting all of the deductions that they are legally entitled to have, so don't be afraid to just ask them, who know best.
Answer 2 :
If your running a business out of your home. Your phone, cell phone, Internet supplies needed such as paper, pens, ink etc. Should go in an itemized list. You can also charge your company rent if you own your own place. No here is the getter if you use your cell phone or home phone for another primary business you can not claim it in both places for instance your work for a separate company and you claim your cell phone on your personal taxes, you can not claim it on your business taxes. If you have any more questions my email is open.
Answer 3 :
Yes - but technically you're supposed to apportion use. So, for example, if 80% of your internet use is for your business and 20% for personal use, you can claim the 80% as a business cost. Same goes for phone usage. Claiming costs for using a room of your house as an office is fraught with difficuties. You can do it - but beware that it opens a whole can of worms, for example, your house insurance my be invalidated, it can give rise to a capital gain when you sell your house etc. This is a very complex area - you should take the advice of your accountant.
Answer 4 :
well, the costs of telephone and internet can be apportioned so that you split out the business use element of it using a certain % which you feel is correct for the use of it, but with telephone you can only do this on the calls, not the line rental as the line rental is classed as private if you only have one phone. (basically they argue that this has to be paid whether or not is is private or business use). you can also do the same with a mobile phone too. If however you have a seperate business line put in, then you can claim the whole cost including the line rental. with regards to an office, this expense is called Use of Home as Office, if you have one room set aside, there are 2 ways of calculating this. first way - actual cost of you elec and gas bills, council tax, house insurance etc.. and then divide this total cost by the number of main rooms, ie lounge, kitchen, no of bedrooms and attribute this figure to the cost of the office. second way - this way is much easier, you can claim upto £6 a week as a standard cost of using the 1 room as an office without the Inland Revenue questioning it. obviously if you take holidays for may have to reduce the cost for the weeks away so if you have say 4 weeks off, then you claim £6 for 48 weeks and not the full 52, but hey, whos gonna know you are away. the second way is by far the easiest and is usually more than the actual cost, depending on the size of you house. hope this helps

Why can accountants charge what they like, without informing their client?

Why can accountants charge what they like, without informing their client?
Solicitors are strictly governed with their costs, but accontants charge whatever they like.
Small Business - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
They don't. If they can't give you a fixed fee you can refuse to pay the bill. If they run your monthly accounts they ALWAYS have to tell you how much it is going to cost in advance. Otherwise you are dealing with a crook.
Answer 2 :
They don't. They tell you their hourly rate and charge it (same applies to lawyers). If you phone him he puts the clock on! If you ask a question or ask him to do something the clock is on! He will be able to show you an itemised time/charge sheet!
Answer 3 :
Accountants are people with knowledge of finance and law so if they make charges (by right) they should inform their client prior to services being made with terms and conditions of changes. ...and also depend on accountant's decency and communications skills. Unfortunately many of them don't even bother to contact their customers. Thanks Kind Regards
Answer 4 :
Accountants should let you know when you are being charged for there services. Its best to ask friends and familly to find a decent and approachable accountant.
Answer 5 :
I should think they have a cost framework like solicitors. That is if they are genuine accountants & members of the appropriate body. They tend to charge as a percentage of turnover.

Accountant in prison.... Joke?

Accountant in prison.... Joke?
An accountant was on remand in prison awaiting trial for fraud. He was disturbed to find himself sharing a cell with a mean-looking psychopath. He timidly kept quiet until the psychopath asked"What are you in for?" The Accountant not wanting to engage in conversation but not wanting to offend him said" I committed a white collar crime." The Psycopath responded with "That's a coincidence, so am I. A litle intrigued, the accountant asked "White collar crime? what did you do?" The psychopath looked him in the eye and said: "I murdered a vicar."

Ususally and engineer is gonna be higher paid but it can always vary!
Answer 2 :
Either one. An accountant could be a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) or the head of an accounting firm etc. An engineer could be COO (chief operating officer) Depends on the individual and what he does with the degree
Answer 3 :
In the UK now? Probably an accountant. It's bollocks don't you think???
Answer 4 :
most certainly an accountant. i am an aircraft engineer and with night shift pay earn around £40k
Answer 5 :
That's a broad question. It depends on what type of engineering and what type of accounting. Also depends on the location of the position and the requirements. If it's starting salaries here's a breakdown: Accounting (Private) $46,614 Accounting (Public) $46,290 Project Engineering $51,076 Design/Construction Engineering $49,039

hang on, you work for accountants and you're asking us?????
Answer 2 :
SURELY your BOSS is the best one to ask, lol??!! If you have done 3 years in college studying accountancy, I worry what you have been doing with your time!
Answer 3 :
You should know! Check it out the HM Revenue & Customs site...
Answer 4 :
I don't think so. To be allowable for tax relief against earnings from your employment, I believe expenses have to be incurred wholly, necessarily and exclusively in connection with that employment. In your case, I'm sure the taxman would argue that the course and exam fees are being incurred not in connection with your present job, but in connection with the better job you hope to get once you have qualified. If, once you have qualified, you have to go on compulsory CPD (refresher) courses, the fees for them should be allowable because the courses will be wholly, necessarily and exclusively incurred in connection with the job which you will then have.

Question to an accountant?

Question to an accountant?
When my accountant asks me how much do you spend on let's say fuel, lunch, sundries or things of that nature, is it in my interest to say more or less ie: will i pay more TAX if i play thing's down a little or build them up a little? Sorry for the Naive question i know nothing of these matters it's my 1st one,Oh and before you 'Do it all by the book merchants' start I'M ONLY ASKING not going to cheat anyone Thanks,
United Kingdom - 6 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
If he's trying to help you draw up a business plan, the more accurate you can be, the more use the finished product. The plan will need to be regularly reviewed as time passes and you get more of a 'feel' for how much you really do spend. If he's drawing up accounts for you, the Revenue may ask for some sort of proof of your figures, so the amount of flexibility you have to claim expenses isn't as great as some may lead you to believe! In general, the more expenses you can legitimately claim the lower your taxable profit. Some expenses aren't allowed for tax purposes - your accountant can tell you more.
Answer 2 :
Have you considered telling the truth?
Answer 3 :
You HAVE to supply receipts. No Accountant is going to take your word for it. If you are investigated by HMRC you will have to show receipts for every item of expenditure.
Answer 4 :
Kernow Lady is right - you can only include in your accounts actual, receipted business expenditure. All allowable business expenditure reduces the tax you pay, so its in your own interests to keep proper records of these items. If you are ionvestigated, HMRC will want to see evidence and if there is none, then the relief is withdrawn and you pay the tax back.
Answer 5 :
Agree with everyone else! You could be required to prove everything (you may not be), so as long as you are open and honest and do not deliberately mislead, then you'll get everything down correctly. I knew a guitarist who managed to get his jeans through his tax bill, as they were specific to the particular tribute band he played in!
Answer 6 :
To reclaim VAT you need the vendors VAT number, whihc, of course, will be on the receipt. No Receipt, no VAT number, no reclaim. Only MP's are allowed to lie, cheat and fraudulently claim expenses they are not entitled to .. for the rest of us (i.e. the peasants), it's criminal offense ...

Maths will probably the only real subject requirement, but Economics would help. I suggest also doing Business Studies, as you cover areas of finance within the course also. Lastly, if your college/school even offers it, there is the Accountancy and Finance A Level. It's not a hugely common A Level, but some places offer it. If they don't, then just choose anything you'd enjoy. Perhaps an interest you have which you'd like to further. Or, why not take something completely new, and maybe find a new passion? I hope this helps and good luck for the future!

How do i reduce my tax bill!!!??

How do i reduce my tax bill!!!??
My accountant has told me i need to pay a bonus through my wages to avoid a huge corporation tax bill this year. He wants me to pay myself £60,000 at xmas. As i already pay 40% tax this means im going to pay £24,000 in tax, is there any way i can avoid this!?!?
United Kingdom - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Get yourself a decent accountant, they will know all the tricks to minimise your tax bill. have you got a good pension sorted out yet? putting loads into that earns you alot of tax relief
Answer 2 :
no but if you want to donate some to my favourite charity (me) you are quite welcome to.
Answer 3 :
depends on what the corp tax bill will be. if its more than £24000 then its best to do that. I would ask what other alternatives there are with regards to dividends etc..
Answer 4 :
You reduce YOUR tax bill by not taking the bonus. This will impact on the CT position. Alternatively, make a contribution to a pension scheme. Wholly tax deductible, but a case of the tax tail wagging the dog. Why don't you ask your accountant? Don't you trust him?

Best person to see about starting a business?

Best person to see about starting a business?
I am hoping to start my own business.I don't need any financial backing and just want to know the ins and outs of tax, public liability ,what insurance I need etc. I would like to discuss it with someone rather than look up info online.Should I go to my bank or an accountant. I have done alot of research and just need to get started
Small Business - 9 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
First, check out the local chapter of SCORE (you can find it at http://www.SCORE.org). Then consult with both your banker and an accountant. You ask questions that fall within different categories and you should attempt to get the answers from experts in each category.
Answer 2 :
Many local councils have teams of people who are there to offer sound advice to folk with new ventures, I would use these as they may have good insight as to where all aspects of trading are considered.
Answer 3 :
Best place to start in England is Business Link, http://www.businesslink.gov.uk which is the governments access point for all business support. As well as online and telephone support if you have specific issues they can put you in contact with business advisers. What you are asking for is covered in depth on their website
Answer 4 :
If you prefer to talk to someone, you should contact SCORE ("Counselors to America's Small Business"). Score "is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide." "SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)." http://www.score.org/index.html You will have to access the internet, but you do have the option of entering your zip code, so you can find a office/counselor in your area, for in-person mentoring.
Answer 5 :
POST YOUR DETAILS TO RAJEEVJAINSB@YAHOO.COM
Answer 6 :
An accountant would be a good place to start (but then I would say that). However the key thing is to speak to someone who has been in business for themselves (which most certainly wont be a banker). Having been in business for myself for the many years I have known the ups and downs such a lifestyle brings and my experience to date tells me to search for knowledge from people that have been there, done it and crucially are happy to share the information with you. Sometimes that search can take a long time and you may have to kiss a few frogs along the way – which can be very costly! I have been lucky enough to have met many individuals who are happy to do so and I am delighted that the launch of my radio programme BUSINESS WITH ATTITUDE has brought together such a fantastic wealth of knowledge and experience that we can all benefit from. In this weeks programme, David Nicoll poses the question “Are you a Natural Entrepreneur?” and shares some crucial thoughts about what is the natural make up of such a person. David is a very successful Accountant and deals with many serial Entrepreneurs through his practice and witnesses their approach on a daily basis – plus he is a mean Entrepreneur in his own right! Michael Markham bought into a business whilst employed by them and built a large and highly successful organisation -plus several that frankly didn't work! He shares his experience of how to look at a business in the early days . Kate Russell has built a successful employment law organisation -an area where most Entrepreneurs get very nervous, yet by applying the basics life doesn't have to be that difficult or scary. And best of all, it's free with no sign up required!
Answer 7 :
First, i would stay away from SCORE. they are 80 year old retired guys that cant work a computer. Many of their advisors have been out of the work force for over a decade and arent keen to small business. Many consultants exist out there and can help you.
Answer 8 :
I'm with Gary on this one. If you're in the UK, speak to your local Business Link. They run free seminars on starting in business that run through all the questions you've asked. Most business bank managers have no experience of running a business. They're hired to help the bank run its business not help you with yours. Accountants usually charge for their time. Why pay them when you can get the help for free from Business Link? Inland Revenue are good, too. They also run seminars on starting in business. The only bit they won't cover is the insurance side of things - not their area of expertise. Business Link does cover that. Good luck with your business
Answer 9 :
Go to an accountant! The bank will tell you what the rules are etc but an accountant will show you how to save money. Even if you only keep the accountant for the first year, then use the experience you have gained to run things yourself after that. He will save you far more than his fee costs! He will explain tax allowances, national insurance, insurance, liability, employment rules, book-keeping, etc. We are a small business and getting a good friendly accountant was the best move we ever made. There are so many things that we hadn't even thought of. He has saved us literally thousands over the last 3 years. And he will keep you up to date on any changes in tax or employment law.

At what age do you think you become a grown up?

At what age do you think you become a grown up?
I think its when you have kids or buy a mortgage. Or something like that. You know, when you make a big commitment to something other than yourself. I'm 24 and studying to be an accountant and i still see other people as grown ups lol. Even though I moved out of my parents house over 2 years ago!
Other - Society & Culture - 14 Answers

Answer 1 :
18
Answer 2 :
Well whenever you start to mature, like getting into adult buisness. Not have kids but buy a morgage i guess so
Answer 3 :
It also can be when you have been through a tramadic evant and have a greater respect for life. I am 26 married and have a house and I am still growing up!
Answer 4 :
In my experience of life, I have seen that a 10 years old child can be more mature than a 50 years old adult.
Answer 5 :
Some people never grow up, it took me until i was about 30, lol. Lads in our school had jobs and a very mature attitude when they were 17 so it depends on the person. I think responsibilty has a lot to do with it. If you have a child (like me) that certainly makes you view things differently. But a mortgage or some kind of responsible job will help. Also, there will always be people who seem grown up no matter how old you are.
Answer 6 :
when the first time I got wet dream
Answer 7 :
I'm 32 and I don't see grown-ups - only people playing in suits acting serious. People tend to confuse being serious with being grown-up. By the way, I'm probably just a big kid. I have matured by way of responsibility, but still try to maintain an outlook of life that it is a joyride from start to finish no matter the bumps in the way.
Answer 8 :
when you are mentally mature and capable of reasoning
Answer 9 :
i don't think it is an age as much as it is a level of maturity because i see people older than me that are immature in an area that they should have grown out of a long time ago, though they are adults
Answer 10 :
I grew up at 14 and a half. My father died and I left school to start work. I had no choice in the matter. It all depends on circumstances, some people have to grow up very quickly, like me. Others are pampered and do not feel the need to mature. I still think of myself as a youngster even though I am over 60. Keep looking at other people as OLD, it helps to keep YOU young.

Paying tax before the tax year is over on a self-assessment ?

Paying tax before the tax year is over on a self-assessment ?
A family member has just received a tax bill from his accountant on a self-assessment. They have asked him to pay 08-09's tax plus the predicted tax for 09-10 by January 2010. Is this normal practise to ask for tax that cannot be calculated yet ?
United Kingdom - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes, it's called a Payment on Account. They are common for self-employed people.
Answer 2 :
Yes, this is normal practice. The amount he is asked to pay is based on last year's tax bill, and is half the amount of expected liability. There will be a similar amount in July, unless he has sent in his Tax Return, which will be issued in April. If liability less, he will get a reduced bill in July, if more, he will be asked to pay the same amount, but with a balancing payment in January 2011. This system attempts to give some parity with employed people, who have to pay tax as they earn the money. No months of free use of tax money for them. If relative thinks tax bill likely to be excessive (perhaps because profits are down) he can ask for a postponement. But if it is found the money was due all along, he will be charged interest on late payment from 31st January until money paid.

BGT - What do you think about the Accountant Singer?

BGT - What do you think about the Accountant Singer?
i think he's got a great voice.... very good... even if he doesn't get to the final because he's up against strong people, i think if he wants to he's got a career... i'm just surprised he's not already in the west end! i don't want him to go through, i want real variety to go through, the impersonatior and the arrangement!
Reality Television - 8 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I think he has a lovely and strong voice and yes he'd be amazing in the West End...but I don't think he'll win the show, there have already been too many opera singers in the past. I just think that if he had auditioned a couple of years back, he'd have a chance at winning. :)
Answer 2 :
I will be shocked if he doesnt get through - having said that I didnt like the song choice and he was slightly off on some notes. BUT Good luck Christopher Stone
Answer 3 :
I was just thinking the same thing! Wouldn't he be great in the West End? I'd happily go to see him. But I have to differ with you- I'd rather he went through than The Arrangement. I thought he was better.
Answer 4 :
Think he has a fantastic voice, but think he'd be better suited to one of ALW's shows.
Answer 5 :
He's very good, but I agree with your end bit, I'd rather variety acts were in the final. But tonights semi final is tough, he might not make it through anyway.
Answer 6 :
Forwarded his performance, can't be bothered with boring singers.
Answer 7 :
Well if I said he was a bad singer I'd blatantly be lying.. because he is brilliant But its the same thing over and over again..there's plenty other singing contests on the telebox Impersonator has to go through! And perhaps the arrangement or Peridot..
Answer 8 :
great singer but shouldn't have went through..... Peridot or The Arrangement should have got that spot!

Do accountants have a duty of confidentiality to clients?

Do accountants have a duty of confidentiality to clients?
If an accountant does your books, for example, then it turns out that you have not paid tax for 4 years or something, would they have a duty to rat you out to HMRC - just for example...
Other - Business & Finance - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Accountants have no obligation to confidentiality the way doctors & lawyers do, no. But a good accountant would be able to help someone who "not paid tax for 4 years or something" get their tax accounts straight with HMRC...
Answer 2 :
A good accountant will ensure you have not made enough profits to pay taxes for the last 4 years! Legally, of course!
Answer 3 :
Accountants do not have a requirement to tell the IRS or government agencies if you have not paid taxes but if they are questioned by the IRS, there is no client privilege like with lawyers.

hello all, well i would like to be an accountant. I have a C at gcse level maths i think if i done som revision and worked hard enough i could get a B or an A as i was 10 marks from a B to start with. Anyway what other skills would i need to be an accountant and is there a way to train these skills? i guess most accounts would be done on excel nowa days, is their a training program to show you what you would be doing in the job?

Answer 1 :
You need to have a good knowledge of algebra skills. The truth is, although algebra rarely comes into play in real-life accounting, every accounting textbook I have ever seen tries to 'trip students up', so to speak, by making them rearrange equations and solve for the unknown variable(s). ---------------- Accounting is not so much about maths as it is about properly categorizing things. If you are good at and enjoy puzzles like jigsaws or crosswords, then accounting might be a good fit for you. However, I do want to mention that the subject involves concepts that you likely have never heard of yet: debits, credits, contra-accounts, depreciation, amortization, etc. If even reading those few words kind of freaks you out, well, maybe it won't be a good fit. ----------------- Oh yeah. No, many of us don't use excel anymore (at least for bookkeeping proper). There's plenty of specialized accounting programs like Quickbooks (which I have used for 20+ years and recommend) and Peachtree, for example. There's a whole bunch of other ones as well.
